I voted for President Aquino because I hoped that he will be administer our country with principles. I realize that practical politics will make it hard for him or any president to do such a thing but I am still disappointed when they do it.

Today I learned that the Philippines will not attend the awarding ceremony for the Nobel Peace prize probably because of pressure from China

Beijing has urged diplomats in Oslo to stay away from the event, warning of "consequences" if they go.

Several of those who have turned down invitations are long-term allies or trade partners. The full list comprises Pakistan, Iran, Sudan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Iraq, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Venezuela, the Philippines, Egypt, Ukraine, Cuba and Morocco.

The sad thing is that the winner, Liu Xiabao, is jailed because of his pro democracy activities. If there is one thing this President should be supporting, is pro-democracy activists. I realize that China is a power that we as a country can ill afford to antagonize, but sometimes principles should stand for something.

How can you not want Robredo?

What more can you ask, Mr. President? How can you not want someone like Robredo, who has an unsurpassed delivery record, at your side as you lead the Philippines in its fight against poverty?

Sabi ni Senador Escudero dapat daw ay huwag tanggapin ng mga taong nagkampanya kay Sen. Aquino ang anumang posisyon na i-offer nito sa kanila dahil:

“At sa panig ng tumulong at sumuporta, hindi di naman sila tumulong at sumuporta at naghihintay ng kapalit na pwesto sa gobyerno niya. Sana bukal sa kalooban at malaya nila ginawa ang pagtulong at walang hinihintay na kapalit makakuha ng pwesto o makabalik sa pwesto [And on the part of those who helped and supported him, they did not help because they are waiting for something in return, like a government post. Sa mga susunod na halalan, nais ko na ipangako ni Sen. Escudero na wala siyang bibigyan ng puesto sa kanino man na susuporta sa kanya sa kanyang pagtakbo. Para sigurado siya na lahat ng susuporta sa kanya ay dahil taos ang puso na prinsipyo ang pinaninidigan sa pagsuporta sa kanya.

Vote Straight LP

I always vote a straight ticket during Presidential Elections, my reasoning is that a new President needs as much support as possible to carry out his or her agenda.

I believe that Noynoy Aquino is the best among all the candidates for President this coming election. If you think so too, I hope you also vote straight Liberal Party so he gets all the support he can, we all know any reform he has planned against the established bureaucracy will be opposed by vested interests, he needs all the help he can get.

Kawawa naman si Loren Legarda, Vice na nga lang tinatakbuhan lagi pa siyang talo. At least kung matatalo lang naman siya sana Presidente na lang siya tumakbo.

Maling Example

Ayon sa istorya sa PDI tinanong ni Sen. Villar sa kanyang privilege speech kung

“Ang isang boxer ba ay lalaban kung may desisyon na ang hurado {Will the boxer still fight if the judges already have a decision }?"

Hindi ko alam kung mahilig manood si Senator Villar ng boksing pero ang sagot sa tanong na ito ay isang malakas na oo. Alam naman natin na sa boksing, nangyayari ang hometown decision, kung saan pinapapanalo ng mga hurado ang mga boksingero na kababayan nila. Pero sumusugod pa rin ang mga iba't ibang boksingero sa iba't ibang bansa para lumaban dahil maski na alam nilang matatalo sila kung babagsak sa hurado ang disisyon sa laban, puede pa rin nilang mapatulog ang kalaban at magwagi.

Kung gusto ni Senador Villar na ikumpara ang sarili niya sa mga boksingero, lumalabas na sinukat siya at natagpuang kulang.

Tatakbo daw sa pagka pangulo si SEnador Chiz Escudero dahil "

...we need a leader that can provide solutions to the unemployment problem, the clamor of teachers for higher salaries and [I am] a man that could address the issue on hunger and poverty," he told reporters here.

Escudero said what the country needs is a leader who has a vision similar to that of the first black American president.

He said he was not comparing himself to Obama but that he believed he could be a good president with the help of the people, especially the youth."

una sa lahat, pano niya nasabi na hindi niya inihahambing ang kanyang sarili kay Pangulong Obama ng Amerika? Sinong bobo ba naman ang gusto niyang goyoin? Ang kapal naman ng mukha niya.

Hindi ko talaga maubos maisip kung bakit naging popular si Sen. Escudero sa mga Pilipino. Oo nga guapo siya, matatas magsalita, matalino. Pero naman, napaka doble kara naman niya.

Noong Pangulo pa si Pangulong Estrada at binabantan siyasa corruption atbp, isa si Sen Escudero sa mga sumuporta kay Pangulong Estrada. Tapos, naging anti-corruption siya nitong si Pangulong Arroyo na ang naka-upo pero nung manalo siyang Senador, nakasama siya sa Mayorya.

Wala pa naman akong masuportahang Presidentiable ngayon, parang wala ng matino na tatakbong Presidente. Bagay, lagi namang talo yung mga matitino (Salonga - 1992, Roco 1998 at 2004). Sino ba naman ang mag aakala ns si Pangulong Ramos ang tatanghalin nating pinakamagaling na Pangulo ng Pilipinas nitong nakaraang 20 taon.

Pork

I was reading Dispatches from the Culture Wars about US President Obama's stimulus plan and I was struck by this comment from Lurkbot.

Am I the only one tired of hearing this word "pork" used to mean "any project not located in my district?" A lot of things need doing. Only a fraction of them will get done, but all of them are done Somewhere.

If the representatives of Somewhere aren't advocating for projects that benefit their constituents, then it's time for the Somewherians to vote them out and get someone who will!

Pork barrel projects get a lot of criticism, and a lot of them deservedly so, but not all pork barrel projects are bad, just like not all politicians are corrupt. The trick is knowing what project is just waste and who are the incorruptible politicians. The problem of course is that its hard to do so.

Ebidensiya

Bakit ba ang hilig hilig ng mga senador na mag akusa ng krimen tapos ang kanilang ebidensiya ay sa susunod na kabanata? Mahilig si Sen. Lacson gawin ito. Ngayon si Sen. Madrigal naman itong nagmamadaling ma diyaryo bago magkaroon ng matibay na ebidensiya.

Hindi ako mamamangaha kung nangumisyon nga ang kapatid ni Speaker Nograles, pero hindi ba puedeng kuhanin muna niya ang lahat ng ebidensiya bago siya magsalita para naman pag nag deny ang kanyang inaakusahan puede niyang sabihin "o eto ang ebidensiya ko, isaksak mo sa baga mo". Ngayon ay nagpapalitan sila ng paratang sa mga diyaryo, nagmumukha na gusto lang ni Sen Madrigal na ma diyaryo.

At hindi rin makatarungan ang ganitong gawain sa mga inaakusahan, paano kung legal nga naman pala ang ginawa ng kapatid ni Speaker Nograles, tapos inakusahan mo siya ng paggawa ng ilegal na bagay? Sinira mo na ang kanyang puri, at kahit ano pa ang gawin mo, hindi mo na maibabalik iyon.

Let us wait and see

According to the PDI, Senator Francis Escudero said

"The chairman of the Senate ways and means committee proposed that 70 percent of presidential appointments to the 5,000 positions in government agencies and government-owned and -controlled corporations should be limited be given to career officials with the technical expertise and institutional memory to continue existing programs.

"There are agencies that need the confidence of the people, not the confidence of the President. These agencies need technical expertise, not loyalty to the appointing power,” he said.

“These include OWWA, NEDA (National Economic Development Authority), DoE (Department of Energy), the Department of Education, and DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways).""

I invite people to help me monitor Sen. Escudero's subsequent career. If he becomes President, let us monitor whether the majority of his appointments come from career officials with technical expertise and institutional memory. If he falls short, let us see whether he will accept any appointments to any government agency where he has no expertise.

Nagtatanong lang

Nung isang araw, pinakiusapan ni Senador Pimentel si Agriculture Secretary Yap na patotohanan kung ang kanyang biyenan ay kasama sa mga rice traders. Kung kasama daw ang biyenan ni Sec. Yap, siguro daw dapat umalis ang biyenan nito sa gawaing ito para walang conflict of interest si Sec. Yap.

Na marinig ni Sec. Yap ang pakiusap ni Sen Pimentel, sabi niya na hindi nangangalakal ng bigas ang kanyang biyenan at hiniling ni Sec. Yap kay Sen. Pimentel sana ay kumuha muna siya ng katibayan bago siya magsalita.

Sa huli sabi ni Sen. Pimentel na wala naman daw siyang ginawang masama dahil nagtatanong lang siya.

Sa kontrobersiyang ito, pumapanig ako kay Sen. Pimentel, nagtatanong nga lang naman siya, ano ba naman ang masama doon? Kung tanungin ba kita kung magnanakaw ang tatay mo, ibig bang sabihin noon ay sinasabi ko na magnanakaw ang tatay mo? Hindi naman di ba? Nagtatanong lang. Ganoon din ang ginawa ni Sen Pimentel, wala namang masama sa pagtatanong di ba?

Criticizing Priests

Jose Rizal notwithstanding, criticizing priests in the Philippines is rarely done. Criticizing politicians however is always done. But what happens when a politician is also a priest? Apparently, you criticize the politician for being a priest.

The PDI reports that

"A civil society group that has turned critical of Governor Eddie Panlilio has asked Pampanga Archbishop Paciano Aniceto to inform Catholics and Christians in the province on the status of Panlilio, a priest, in the Roman Catholic Church."

They are now trying to ascertain whether Governor Panlilio is still a priest or whether he can return to the priesthood after his term of office. The article does not mention however, what the heck is their problem with Governor Panlilio . Is he a corrupt Governor? Is he inept? How does his priesthood affect negatively his performance in office?

Without details, this is just an ad hominem attack on Governor Panlilio for being a priest.
