I see the future (sort of)

In a previous post on criticism of social media, I opined that "Concerned trolling only gives ammunition to people who would want to stifle the free wheeling nature of the internet and impose their own order." Now prime minister of the UK wants to control social media because of the riots
"Mr Speaker, everyone watching these horrific actions will be stuck by how they were organised via social media. Free flow of information can be used for good. But it can also be used for ill. [And when people are using social media for violence we need to stop them.]
"So we are working with the Police, the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality. I have also asked the police if they need any other new powers."

That is so unlikely from happening because that is blaming the medium rather than the user.

The MPs were just caught up in the moment, having to cancel their summer holiday to come back for a special session and say populist statements. They needed something to say.

In the end, freedom of speech by any medium will be upheld.
