Monopoly

So my wife bought the Monopoly game from Yahoo games. She wanted me to try it so I installed it using using wine in Kubuntu 7.04. It installed ok with a desktop link for the game in my desktop and even a short cut for yahoo games.

But it does not work, I double click on the icon and it seems to be initializing for a while and then it just quits. I searched in Ubuntu Forums and it seems that it will still be along while before I can play yahoo games in Kubuntu.

It just of course means that I would have to play other games besides yahoo games.

Full Moon Force

The Bad Astronomer links to this story that "debunks (the) notion that full moon causes more workplace injuries." Harold, in this comment, presents a compelling counter argument.

"Phil, a look at the statistics clearly shows that nearly 50% of all police calls and emergency room visits happen within a week (before or after) of the full moon. If we move out to two weeks, the rate jumps to nearly 100%! Deny that!"

Ghost Voters

Troublesome Frog wrote this comment on this post by Ed Brayton. It concerns dead voters and he does have a point.

"I don't understand why people bitch so much about dead people voting. I plan to be dead myself at some point, and I'd like to have a government that represents my interests. Right now, the metabolically challenged face a lot of discrimination."

Even with Die Hard 4 in the offing, the one movie that I was really looking forward to was Ratatouille. Now I find a review from Dana Stevens at Slate Magazine:

DTI slapped silly

Ms. Winnie Monsod has been smacking the DTI and the PHAP around these last few weeks regarding their opposition to the RIRR of the Milk Code here and here. I just have to quote a portion of her latest column:

"... the official position of the Department of Trade and Industry, “While we agree that ‘breastfeeding is good for babies up to two years,’ we also recognize that the practice of breastfeeding is slowly becoming uncommon, as supported by a report of the World Health Organization showing Filipinos spending P21.5 billion yearly on infant formula.”

Helloo! That “slowly becoming uncommon” phenomenon is precisely why the Department of Health and every right-thinking Filipino, are getting concerned -- because it is accompanied by unnecessary infant and children deaths and morbidity."
